What is Emotion Focussed Therapy?
.
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is a gentle, evidence-based approach that helps individuals and couples better understand their emotions and the patterns that shape their relationships.
As an EFT therapist I focus on creating a safe, supportive space where emotions can be explored with care, curiosity, and compassion. This attachment based therapy supports deeper emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and lasting change, particularly where relationships feel strained or disconnected. By working with emotions I help clients to move out of painful or stuck cycles and into more secure, meaningful connection with self and others.
Because EFT is collaborative and client-led, it honours each person’s lived experience while helping clients build greater emotional safety, trust, and closeness. Clients find EFT to be validating and transformative, as it helps them feel heard, understood, and emotionally supported. EFT has been shown to create lasting change because it focuses on the underlying emotions that drive behaviour.
Evidence-based effectiveness
Research consistently shows strong outcomes for couples therapy using EFT, including improvements in relationship satisfaction and emotional security. EFT can help couples who have experienced breaches of trust, ongoing conflict, or emotional distance by creating structured opportunities for repair and reconnection.
